The Tamilnadu Open University was established by an Act of the Legislative Assembly of the Tamilnadu Government to benefit those who have been deprived or denied access to higher education, particularly the poor, physically challenged, working men and women, economically disadvantaged sections of society, and those who have discontinued education for a variety of reasons. Its primary goal is to reach those who have previously been unreached. The University provides numerous programs in a variety of subjects. This initiative by the Tamil Nadu government would benefit women, the physically challenged, the rural poor, and the marginalized parts of society, and we are committed to supporting it both intellectually and financially. TNOU was also recognised worldwide when it became a member of the South Asian Distance Education Scheme in Asia. Furthermore, the University has been recognized by the Government Foundation of France, which recently granted it "France India Heritage".
